Ana in Greece- CUSTOMS

Greeks have A LOT of customs and traditions that they celebrate. They celebrate major holidays such as Easter and I ndependence Day, but they also do small customs as well. Here are few of them. One of them is the Name Day celebratin. This celebration is considered more important then birthdays. People who are named after saints are assigned a specific day to celebrate the name. On this day, people come and visit and bring presents and throw parties, etc. Greeks also celebrate a holiday called Clean Monday. This is the first day of the season of lent. On this day, families go on picnics and fly kites. Another custom is knives. If someone asks for a knife at the dinner table, the person cannot hand them the knife because they think they will have to fight. Instead, they lay it down on the table and the other person picks it up. Spitting is also a custom. Greeks believe that spitting chases away the devil and misfortune. This is why when people talk about bad news, people spit three times and say "ftou, ftou, ftou". Unlike the western belief, the Greece unlucky day is Tuesday the 13th rather than Friday the 13th. Well, that is the end of this blog, amd it is also the end of my blog. I am sorry to say that this is the last post of mine. I have really enjoyed posting things for you to read, and i hope that you have enjoyed reading them! Just know that Greece is one of the most amazing places on Earth, and I hope that one day you will have the opportunity that I had to come here!
