The government in Switzerland is a confederation under a constitution that was written in 1874 and has recently been revised in 1988. The president of Switzerland is elected by the national legislature. The federal council is consisted of seven members and are elected to a four year term by the legislature just like the president. Each canton in Switzerland has two people elected to the Federal Council that has 46 members. If anyone is elected to the Legislature they serve a four year term.
