Hei, the above title, says Hello, want to learn about Finnish Traditions? We celebrate many holidays like Americans do, we have Christmas, Easter, Valentines day, but we also celebrate holidays like MayDay, Midsummer and Shrove Tuesday. We celebrate these holidays in many different ways though.
On Christmas, we celebrate with festivals and parties many weeks before the actual date. Most of the festivities begin in mid-November, we usually have some mulled wine or Glogg, which is a very strong alcohol base wine. There is alternatives that are equally fruity, but there is no alcohol, because some people have to drive home. All the women, do not have as great of a time as the me, they have to scrub their entire house, so it is good enough for a religious or political leader. Have to take out the rugs and beat them for hours on end, then they get to rest while the husband cooks the food, and does any minor house work. They decorate after the house is cleaned, there is very little decoration and usually a very small tree. This is usually for cost purposes.
Every year a small Finnish holiday called "Shrove Tuesday". On this holiday many friends and family celebrate by going out on a frozen pond or lake, and they have a bonfire and the children take turns on the sled while the others push. This holiday is usually celebrated to console others of their sins and they have to celebrate by singing many song.
As you can see, Finland has a great way to celebrate holidays and they are very entertaining. I cannot wait for November!!!
