Holidays in Greece

Hey it's Melina again.

The most celebrated religeous holidays in Greece are Easter and the pentecost which is seven days after Easter. I personally enjoy Easter the most. These are in the fall according to our calendar. Easter celebrations begin with a festival about three weeks before lent. Lent is when you give something up for Christ to show how He gave up his life and everything He had for you. Many Greeks give up meat, olive oil, or dairy products for lent. On Easter Sunday families often have big picnics with their family.

The feast of Saint Basil starts off the New Year. We bake a coin into the cake and whoever gets the coin in their cake is brought good luck in the coming year. Epiphany is like a Christmas service.
