Family Life in Greece

Hello. It's Melina again.
In a Greek family, they consider everyone including cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents as part of your family as well. Grandparents often live with their children. I will want to get out on my own when i get married, but I plan to come home for important events. It is common for when the children move out on their own, they almost always come home for holidays and celebrations.

Greeks have strong ties with the people who live around them in their city or village. In the Greek homes, children generally have a shared room. My family is a staple in Santorini because my grandfather owns many fishing boats that help supply the island with enough to eat and sell.

When a Greek couple gets married, both families contribute to the couple's new home. They help them set up their home and get the things they need. It's very common for children to be named after their grandparents. The births of children is an extremely important event in a family. The children are usually the center of a Greek home. They often live with their parents until they marry. I plan to live with my parents until I get married.
