Milan: The History of Fashion

Hello again! So, for my first project in the fashion world, I was assigned to research Milan and how it has become known as the "Fashion Capital of the World". Milan's fashion success all started in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. In the 16th century, Milan chose its name from the word "Millaner", which means of fine wares. In the 19th century, a new variant of the word "Millaner" came out called "Millinery", which means one who made or sold hats. This is the start of fashion in Milan. In the early 20th century, Milan was known as a major center of silk and textile productions. In the 1970s, after Milan's fashion image was taken by Florence, their fashion image became much more glamorous. The city became a much more popular shopping destination with numerous boutiques which sold elegant and everyday clothing. Milan designs became known for being practical and simple elegance that were much more affordable than Florentine and Parisian designs. After they made a name for themselves, Milan started to become internationally succesful and famous. After a brief downfall of popularity in the 2000's, the city throned itself as 2009's fashion capital of the world! This information blew my mind!! A whole city designated to fashion?! I am definitely going to keep you posted on the new information that I learn about Milan's fashion history.
